Is Phil Good at Fighting Games?

OMG ITS SNAKE EYEZ

But yeah its always fun watching someone competent play the characters he uses. You see so many normals used that DSP never presses. You see set-ups he never incorporates because he’s so obsessed with BIG GINORMOUS PPUNISH COMBO BABYs.

Same shit with Blanka. Phil never used his level 2(powers up his blanka ball) at all and theres some crazy shit all over twitter on what Blanka can do, and alottapeepul(real) are calling him a menace.

Somewhat unrelated but Phil last night went off about how he can’t do his pattern when playing Dhalsim. So practically admitting he’s just a pattern player. Explains everything that we already knew, though. Just smash his face against the wall and complain when the opponent puts a stop to it and he loses.

Not just the complete lack of character knowledge you’ve think a former alleged contender for top 10 during Super Turbo’s hay day in the easy 2000s would have already, but also just the spacing in general. Snakeyes isn’t fighting some basic bitch Cammy, that’s one of the best Cammy’s in the world, and #1 in terms of online ranking getting totally snuffed by Gief’s range.

Here is a video talking about some match up stuff that might be useful to watch for a lot of things

Sorry about the double post but fuck you its my thread. I kept watching this guy’s videos and in thos video he reminded me of something at about 3:30

I think its time we talk a little about combos, and another layer on to why Phil licks dicks at fighting games.

The short version is he treats them as a cheat code. ā€œI push these buttons in this order, and you lose so much healthā€. And that is probably what you all think of combos as. Because on the short end or the extreme far end. That is kind of what they are. A Bread n Butter combo or BnB, is a short little hit string you use to deal damage. And I am sure you have all heard of Touch of Death combos or infinites. These are combos meant to. Well win. You evem have the less extreme side of this, which is more of what SF6 does. And thats the combos you end with a super, ideally to win, or at least take a huge chunk of health off.

But combos can be so, so much more. Because the best way to think of combos, and the thing Phil ignores, is they are a string of actions that can’t be interrupted. And while they do deal damage. You can do so, so much more with them. Key of which is you get to change up the location of the two fighters. You can use combos to put your opponent in the corner. You can use them to get out of corners. Switch sides with a combo. Close or create distance.
In short, when a combo is done you have a whole new neutral. And good players will take advantage of that. And thats not even getting into the weird mind games you can do with combos. Or even setting up kills or better combos with a different one and hoping to take a new turn right away.

So next time Phil plays, watch him. Notice that he only ever does one combo, maybe varied by his super bar. Then notice how he never cares about where or when he does it. Then start paying attention to other players. And you will see another way Phil sucks at video games

That’s a great point because nowhere has this been more evident than in SF6 when he played Dhalsim and Gief. It’s crazy how many times he was burnt out less than 10 seconds into a round with those characters because he’d do a combo that uses a drive rush cancel right out the gate and drive rush cancels are expensive, it takes 3 bars off the drive meter which is half the meter. And at least the drive rush cancel combos he did with Dhalsim did decent damage compared to a regular combo, the one with Gief he kept doing while climbing to Master rank was fucking pathetic, it would do 15% damage or thereabouts.

rut roh…

Parry is getting nerfed, whiffed parry is getting 4 more frames of recovery and we all know how much phil just likes to mash parry…

I say he quits Sf6 again, season 2 messed everything up it’s SFV all over again

It infuriates me to no end when the idiot is holding parry, lets go of it while getting attacked to go for a block, not understanding that there’s frames of vulnerability between parry and block.

So then of course captain Stoopido over here gets hit and goes ā€œHUUUUUUHHH?!?! THE STUPID FUCKING GAME WOULDN’T LET ME GO FROM A PARRY TO BLOCK BECAUSE OF THE TRASH NETCODE AND HE GETS REWARDED FOR MAYUSHING!!!ā€

I’ve seen this happen twice now. It’s legit a mystery how this man baby’s brain works because he seems to be thinking this is Third Strike parry mechanics. No clue how you could confuse the two games. He just refuses to learn, refuses to change, refuses to admit it’s his fault for not knowing the rules of the game. If you let go of parry, there are frames where your character puts his guard down. YOU CAN SEE the animation for it so of course you can be hit during that movement frames.

So how much does a positive win loss ratio mean when you run like a bitch the second you hit Master and then when you finally pry your tail from between your legs and give it the ol’ college try only to get completely fucking crushed and get put with the other scrubs in the sub 1500 master point range?

Loses 6-1. ( to 1600 MR Blanka in Casuals)

See, now it looks like that guy is better than me! He isn’t better than me!

OK, Dave.

So for the record the Vancover FGC player King who is a "pro’ that 6-1’d dave is a no scrub who didn’t beat him AND ChrisG who is 0-14 on dave is also a scrub who only won cause he used Cammy, a cammy he just started playing 30 mins before beating dave and got to master in the same stream

oh ok.

ANYWHO There was a reddit threat about the worst shit takes you’ve ever hear, ofc DSP came up and it came up how the second he takes any damage he just starts crying and doesn’t stop the entire stream which funny enough is literally what happened last night.

It’s true. I am honestly shocked by how deranged he is. When he is winning a match it’s all good. But the instant he gets hit by the player or faces any opposition or counter play he legitimately gets tilted. He just wants people to stand there and let him win I guess. DSP could be playing a match, WIN it and still he’d insult the other guy and complain. He’d say some shit like ā€œthis SUCKS because I had to work my AYUSS off for that win and he can just stay there and mash that jabā€ like bro not even Justin Wong or MenaRD act like this. Dave could be playing a Diamond player and at the end of set he’s sighing like he just had to move concrete slabs meanwhile tournament players are just chilling. What a CLOWN!

The only players Phil will ever take a loss from are the likes of Snake Eyes and Nephew, known FGC greats. Hell, he was insulting another one when he just thought they were a diamond Marisa. Even though if you payed any attention they knew what they were doing and complete fucking crushed him. Dude was a sour little pussy the entire night. And he didn’t find out till he checked his email the next day they were a know player, at which point he dropped to his knees and proceeded to suck them like a Dyson.

so now there’s additional recovery frames for parry so that’s going to fuck him over, Akuma is very free form so he can’t think like that so that’s going to fuck him AND if you have one character in master you start ranked in diamond.

this might ego boost him for the day stream but he’ll rage quit sf6 in the night stream. Like when HE PICKED, not this game HE PICKED advanced league as his starting league which starts you at P1 then said the game screwed him when he got his shit pushed in with Mr Fundementals white toast Ryu cause they stupidly put him in platinum to start and didn’t let him learn the game.

Also Geif has no tools he’s bottom their other character get on hit in and do a 60% high damage combo, geif can’t do anything like that

oh wait

EDIT - OMG he’s going to HATE season 2, RIP sf6, not only does parry have more frames but the throw box is extended so no parrying a throw would whiff, parrying the throw connects.

His one generic gimmick in SF6…gone.

The only thing I learned from tonight’s late stream of SF6 is that Zangief has a supplex grab and a DDT. This is only new to me because I don’t watch fighting games and the only time I’ve seen Zangief used is when Dave uses him. Might want to broaden your horizons there, bud.

Also DSP baby raging so hard that the controller disconnects. 300 dollars gone, just gone, in an instant soon.

So in summery of Phil’s Akuma, this incredible legacy character the actual fighting game community has been hyped for and Maxillian Dood even did a retrospective on. One single brain dead basic bitch combo, throws for days, panic mashing drive impact and confirm into level 3. A shameful display!

Also, what’s so bad about wake up level 3 exactly? I’ve seen Snakeeyes use it and Phil blew him like he got paid.

Phil also fucking wake up level 3s. Because hes a shit head. He just gets mad because he has no spatial reasoning and so he fucking falls for it all the goddamn time

To put in perspective the original question of this thread.

in 24 hours over 2000 people hit master with Akuma, Capcom changed up ranking where if you have one character in master you can’t place lower than Diamond 1…it’s almost like ā€œrealā€ ranked is the seasonal climb to legend.

Phil got placed in D5 and in the time other streamers hit master starting from Diamond he down ranked, got back to low D5 only to downrank again then back up the down.

He’ll hit master during the day stream then drop akuma only to run to blanka who is still a menace that should have been nerfed…but instead they nerfed the more technical character chun-li.

EDIT - speaking of people hitting master with akuma. Daiphone did it from placement to master also placing at D5 in little over 1 hour…shorter than the gameplay segment of DSP’s night stream. But it’s the game not him that’s bad.

EDIT 2 - nevermind they deployed a hotfix that had the blanka nerfs, mostly damage scaling

EDIT 3 - WHELP I guess I Was wrong, I mean I know he’s bad but my god he can’t play characters with QC or DP motions, he didn’t hit master he actually deranked.

but remember this is the best he’s been at street fighter…ever or recently

The thing that makes DSP’s delusions so funny is that he always says ā€œguys I am not a pro playerā€ but then acts like he expects himself to be a pro and every other player on ladder is beneath him. The funny implication of this is that he thinks his skill level is somewhere between your ā€œaverageā€ good player and a lower ranking pro player when it reality he’s between trash and the ā€œaverageā€ good player.

Not sure if you’d call this the Dunning Kruger effect but it’s funny to watch this dude who is objectively without skill act like he’s low key a menace.

Phil actually had the fucking balls to say ā€œYou know me, I don’t play a patternā€ during his post fisting cope segment. Dude does the exact same thing every single match and hope to God they don’t figure out that he’s either going for a grab or a tatsu into shoryuken until he can jab confirm into a level 3. Yeah, diamons aren’t going to fall for that.

No, you have it right. Though in Pigler’s case called it Dented Kruger effect. It’s fairly obvious he’s not half the legend he seems to think he is. Lets say you have an absolute badass as Super Turbo that 20 years ago he dropped the controller and completely missed 3, 4 and 5 and suddenly he were handed 6, yeah he’d be rusty to say the least, but there would be core fundamentals they would still have. Basic fighting game knowledge that should just be blindingly obvious, like practicing your combos, spacing, knowing your bread n’ butter moves. All stuff Phil has no knowledge of at all. But he’s convinced this image of him self he’s pygnotized him self into believing is true.
